If you are not already reading Christina Beauchamp's fabulous blog, Fitness and Frills, get on it! She writes about fashion, health and fitness, and best of all, champagne! She was kind enough, to let me share one of her past posts about sipping on some champagne the guilt-free way. Just when I thought I knew everything about drinking, I learn something new.
You know what I love most about champagne? In addition to its effervescent deliciousness, I love that champagne makes the most average day feel fancy and special. Because of this, it has always been my go-to libation: no celebration required.
So what is a girl to do when she has champagne taste, but she doesn’t want it to affect her waist? She drinks Brut Nature!
About a year ago I was absolutely flabbergasted to discover that most sparkling wines are given a “dosage” prior to corking. This “dosage” (pronounced doh-SAHJ) may sound fancy — it really rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it? —- but it isn’t pretty, people. In fact, it is just straight up sugar syrup. That means lots of calories and lots of carbs. These two things don’t usually agree with our physique, if you know what I mean.
This sugary revelation might sound grim, but all hope is not lost. You really can sip your champs without the guilt by opting for Brut Nature Champagne. This type of champagne is not supplemented with the sugary "dosage" concoction — so say hello to guilt-free bubbles!! Brut Nature only has 0-3 grams of residual sugar per LITER. This is a far cry from the 32-50 grams of sugar found in a bottle of Demi-Sec or Doux. Even Brut Champagne, which is known for being dry, has about 12 grams of sugar.
As you can see, Brut Nature is a sugar-free girls dream! All the bubbles without the the struggle of working those carbs off at the gym! So, why doesn’t everyone drink this dream of a drink? Unfortunately, most people don’t know it’s an option. So spread the word! I was completely clueless until 12 months ago.
Ok, so now the tricky part: tracking down a bottle of Brut Nature. It is important to note that Brut Nature goes by quite a few aliases like “Brut Zero” and “Non-Dosé” so be on the lookout for these names too. The popularity of this lower carb champagne is on the rise, but it’s not yet commonplace so some stores don’t carry it. But NOTHING can stop a girl on a mission, and I finally struck gold at 3 different Dallas stores!
Enjoy these three bottles of bubbly sans guilt :
1. Mercat Brut Nature // Available at PK’s on Lomo Alto Drive
2. Pedegrosa Brut Nature // Available at Sigel’s on Routh Street
3. Val de Mer Non Dosé // Available at Scardello on Oak Lawn Avenue
Not in Dallas? Not a problem. It might take some hunting, but it is out there! If the store nearest you doesn’t carry it, ask them if it can be ordered. They are usually super helpful and willing to get something just for you! Of course, you can always purchase online as well. It may sound like a lot of work, but I promise your health (and your waistline) will thank you!
I’ll toast to a guilt-free glass of bubbles any day!About the Author: Christina Beauchamp is a Dallasite originally from Houston. She writes about fashion, fitness, and everything in between. You can keep up with her on instagram, pinterest, and facebook.
